The first-ever high-stakes poker tournament series Poker Masters already started at the ARIA Resort and Casino this Wednesday, with the first of the four No-Limit Hold’em events featuring a buy-in of $50,000.
The inaugural Poker Masters series is to be held from September 13th to September 20th at the ARIA Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Apart from the four 50,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em events, all of which take place in two game days, there will also be a single $100,000 NL Hold’em event that is to feature a three-day structure with two feature table days and a final table day.
Also, all events offering a $50,000 buy-in will feature one re-entry option. The $100,000 buy-in event, on the other hand, will not provide players with the chance to make any re-entries. The high-stakes poker tournament series is to be fully streamed on the on-demand subscription poker service PokerGO.
Poker Masters Series Event #1 Day 1
The first event featured by the new poker tournament series attracted a total of 51 players, but after only one day of play, this player field was reduced to seven players, of which Matt Hyman appeared as a chip leader with a stack of 1,460,000 chips.
Apart from Matt Hyman, who is to return for the second day of the event as a chip leader, six other players survived the night and are now guaranteed a monetary prize pool portion estimated to $127,500. The rest of the players who are to return at the ARIA Resort and Casino are Adrian Mateos, Nick Schulman, as well as four German players, including Dominik Nitsche, Koray Aldemir, Steffen Sontheimer and Stefan Schillhabel.
For the time being, it is Steffen Sontheimer who is second in chips with a stack of 1,255,000, while Nick Schulman is third, with a total of 1,050,000 in chips after the first day of Event #1. Stefan Schillhabel is at the bottom of the pack, with 570,000 in chips.
The winner of the first $50,000 event of the Poker Masters series is to take home a massive first-place prize estimated to $918,000. The player who emerges victorious will also become part of the competition for the series’ Poker Masters Purple Jacket which is to be awarded to the tournament’s champion – the player with the highest total winnings generated throughout all five events.
Other Notable Players in Poker Masters Event #1
As mentioned above, only seven players made it to the final table of the event. However, the first event of the inaugural Poker Masters series gathered at one place a plethora of poker stars, including Fedor Holz, Phil Hellmuth, Rainer Kempe, Cary Katz, Daniel Cates, Doug Polk and Erik Seidel.
Other popular poker players who did not managed to get to the final table and busted were Daniel “Kid Poker” Negreanu and Sean Winter, who became the bubble boy of the event and left without getting to the monetary prizes of the tournament.
